What happens in a drum lesson?

Because no two students are alike what we work on depends greatly on what your goals are and what your learning style is. We always make sure that you are working on the music that excites you while giving you the quality instruction that will help you achieve your goals quickly.

We welcome students of all ages and abilities. Whether you are a teen that needs help with all-state jazz band auditions, a gigging musician looking to improve technique and learn new styles or have never touched a pair of drum sticks, we are open to all.

Lessons often include:
-
Transcribing drum parts of the students choice- Whether it is a groove on your favorite song or a be-bop jazz solo learning the music you love is a vital part of lessons.
-
Technical fundamentals- This means learning to play in a way that allows you to make music with ease and comfort.
-
Stylistic Analysis- Learning different rhythms from around the world can be a great way to find your voice on the instrument and expand your musical vocabulary.
-
Coordination- One of the most challenging aspects of the drum set is learning to coordinate the limbs. We have tons of fun and challenging exercises to keep you improving.
-
Snare Drum rudiments- The snare drum rudiments are a tried and true way to quickly develop sound and facility and we have many fun ways to apply them musically around the drums.
-
Reading- Though many people find learning to read drum notation scary we break it down into fun and easy steps. In just a few weeks you will be amazed!
